ALEX stands for Alabama Learning Exchange. It is a project of the Alabama Department of Education and is set up to provide teachers, administrators, parents and students with valuable information and resources such as lesson plans, web links and interactive activities that will help educators provide the best quality of learning to their students.
ALEX can be reached at http://alex.state.al.us. You can click on the following links to receive information: Courses of Study, Web Links, Lesson Plans, Personal Workspace, Professional Learning and Distance Learning. There are also Search and Help links.
After you click on the Course of Study link, you can choose the course to be studied and the grade level to be taught. It will give you the goals and standards that are to be met in a time period for that age group along with other information.
After you click the Lesson Plans link, you can create your own lesson plans or use lesson plans that have been posted and modify them to your needs.
Personal Workspace is for you to store and submit lesson plans and websites. It is just what it says it is, your personal workspace.
Professional Learning link gives you some websites that will help you find opportunities for professional development, teaching tools, news and other information.
Clicking on the Distance Learning link takes you to the ACCESS access. ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide. It allows students to participate in Advanced Placement, electives and other courses that may not be available at their school.
